KKR won the toss and elected to field, MI desperately needing points to stay alive in this tournament opened the innings and batted carefully, the openers Surya Kumar Yadav and Evin Lewis kept their wickets and scored 56 runs off the first 6 overs, Yadav Scored 59 runs off 39 balls provided a good platform for MI middle order, then the late surge from Hardik Pandya and useful contributions from Krunal Pandya and JP Duminy posted a formidable total for KKR.
KKR reshuffled their batting line up again sending in Shubman Gill to open instead of Narine derailed the KKR thoughts, both openers were gone to the pavilion in the span of 2 balls, new KKR basmen could not capitalize the powerplay scoring just 47 runs in the first 6 overs with the loss of two wickets, Mitchell McClenaghan bowled really well taking the wicket of dangerous Chris Lynn very early which was the deciding factor of the match, Hardik Pandya once again was excellent with the ball giving two important breakthroughs of S Gill and Nitish Rana wickets, KKR lost momentum after the departure of Robin Uttappa who scored 54 runs off 34 balls, despite captain Dinesh Kartik and Andre Russel still at the crease at the end of 16th over, excellent death bowling from JJ Bumrah and Hardik Pandya ensured MI stayed ahead of KKR, KKR losing the wicket of Andre Russell in the 16th over ensured MI were on track for victory. MI won by 13 runs and scoring the much needed points to stay alive in this tournament.
