MI needing to win every game from their current position did not put their bowling or batting under pressure, KXIP started off well with the opening pair of KL Rahul and Gayle playing watchfully and not giving away their wickets in the powerplay scoring 49 runs off 6 overs, MI bowlers restricted well with Bumrah returning to his old form not giving anything away, MI looked like restricting KXIP under 160 but last over from Hardik Pandya gave away 22 runs with Stoinis doing the damage to set the target of 175 for MI
MI started off losing dangerous Evin Lewis early but Surya Kumar Yadav was determined to get his team on course to victory, he took his time with Ishan Kishen and gave a good foundation for middle order batsmen, promoted up the order Hardik Pandya contributed a valuable 23 taking on the spinners but did not last long, finally captain Rohit Sharma who started off very carefully watching the ball not giving any room for error played a captains innings, Krunal Pandya showed why he was one of the retained player playing very carefully and getting his team home to victory.
